Does anyone know the status of the various bridges? I know they can be buggy and a pain.

Through a series of not fully thought out decisions, I don't have access to Telegram right now. I'm pretty sure I need to wait the 6 or 12 months until my account is auto deleted so I can possibly sign up again.

**The irc link in the community tab doesn't seem to go anywhere.** I was wrong, the irc link works when you have an irc client installed. And I just found out that last year the official Matrix bridge to Libera.chat was discontinued and required a fair bit of manual intervention.

Thanks

At the index of this forum, and in the Community menu at the GhostBSD website:

Code: Select all

https://app.element.io/#/room/#ghostbsd:libera.chat
If I understand correctly: this will never work, since bridging ended.

Eric, please see the 2023-11-28 post under https://matrix.org/category/bridges/ and corresponding https://libera.chat/guides/matrix – you might like to remove the links.

Thanks for the extra detail @grahamperrin and you're correct. Most channels were portalled, which caused issues, so the bridge was shutdown. You can still create a plumbed channel, but the blog posts make it sound like its more effort than it's worth. I think we have these options:

1. Drop irc and element - probably the easiest and might be the most pragmatic since @ericbsd has plenty of other responsibilities.
2. Create a plumbed room - seems like a lot of effort
3. Use Mautrix https://matrix.org/ecosystem/bridges/telegram/ to bridge Element directly to Telegram - It looks like it would more or less work with the Telegram channels that were made (off topic, dev, etc) and cut out the middleman of irc.

I don't know anything about setting up these bridges so I'm not sure if it's worth it or how hard it is. Plus me being locked out of Telegram is my own doing and it's not anyone's responsibility to help me work around it.

I will offer to help with some or all of this, but being that I have 2 small kids and other stuff I'm not sure how reliable I would be. I don't want to leave people hanging.
