Fresh install.
First 561 updates.
It's been at it since 9:30am ET. So, coming up on 5 hours here soon.
Mate seems to be in a mostly crashed state. The menu disappeared hours ago and has never returned. The 4 icons on the desktop have been bouncing up and down every few seconds since then. All 4 of them now have generic document icons. The desktop picture / wallpaper disappeared and has been replaced by a gradient that fades from blue to green. The only window still open is the Installing Update window. Currently at 551 of 561. There is a mouse pointer and it moves but, other than being able to reposition the Installing Update window or being able to highlight one of the 4 generic icons on the desktop, it can't do anything else.
Is this normal and expected? If I'm patient and wait (and if these updates ever finish) will I be rewarded with a nice stable operating system?
Updates taking HOURS
Re: Updates taking HOURS
sounds like mate crashed.
Can you log out, then drop to a TTY (CTRL F2) log in, and remove the mate directory? This is assuming you log into your home directory
rm -rf .config/mate/
If unsure, then do not try this.
as for the speed, sounds like you need to pick a different repo
