Hi all,
I was playing around with a GhostBSD 24.04.1 (with MATE desktop) installed a while ago, and updated it yesterday, which made it non-bootable. I thought I had messed something up, so I re-installed the GhostBSD 24.04.1 from USB stick, and then directly after installing updated the system as it was suggesting it with a pop up. After installing, it prompted me to restart the machine which I did. But the problem appeared again: GhostBSD starts into some mode without a desktop environment. It shows the mouse cursor, but the screen is black and it has large white cursor on the left top corner.
What might be wrong? Is there some way to fix the system and get to the desktop environment?
I took some pictures about the boot process. They are in the attachments in time order (1.jpg to 9.jpg)
EDIT: Perhaps interesting parts from the images:
```
4.jpg:
iwmbtfw: iwmbt_fw_read: open: /usr/local/share/iwmbt_firmware/ibt-12-16.sfi: No such file or directory
iwmbtfw: main: Firmware download failed!
warning-path: Unable to locate data directory derived from $HOME: '//.local/share/fish'.
warning-path: The error was 'Permission denied'.
warning-path: Please set $HOME to a directory where you have write access.
warning-path: Unable to locate config directory derived from $HOME: '//.config/fish'.
warning-path: The error was 'Permission denied'.
```
So the problem might be that somehow the HOME directory has disappeared or changed permissions? One thing to note that when I installed GhostBSD I used the Advanced partitioning (since I have Ubuntu and Windows also on the machine), and I have a single UFS partition mounted to "/" (root), and no separate home partition.

Have you tried using the GhostBSD-24.07.3.iso? It just came out recently.

Thank you for the suggestion! I just tried to install the GhostBSD 24.07.3 multiple times, but every time after the install, during the first the boot process it got stuck in the splash/GhostBSD logo. I thought that would be caused by the install on the external SSD, but then I installed GhostBSD 24.04.1 on the same disk and it worked fine. Until I went ahead and updated the system through the Update Station. This time it also got stuck the the splash/logo screen during the first reboot. So there's something that's incompatible with my laptop (HP EliteBook 840 G5 SBKPF), or maybe I just have some configuration set in a way that is not supported.Have you tried using the GhostBSD-24.07.3.iso?
